# Improving access to quality care

Welcome to OneFamilyHealth Rwanda //

One Family Health (OFH), is a USA incooperated entity registered in Rwanda. OFH develops and operates a model for the distribution of essential drugs and services to children and their families in the developing world. The model combines established micro-enterprise and franchise business principles to create opportunities for trained nurses to own and operate small clinics in under-served areas. OFH has 100% ownership of a low profit subsidiary One Family Health Rwanda which runs the franchise scheme "One Family Health Posts". OFH signed a Private Public Partnership (PPP) with the Government of Rwanda through the Ministry of Health to develop 500 Health Posts. It further signs PPP agreements with local authorities in districts across Rwanda. Local Authorities in turn provide the infrastucture and co-supervision of the Health Posts. OFH Rwanda enters into franchise agreements with nurses to run the essential entry-level care facilities. For OFH, rapid scaling is the key to success and sustainability. OFH has franchised out 130 outlets in 14 Districts in Rwanda, of which 110 are still fully functional. Since inception, OFH has created over 300 jobs in the private sector. For each Health Post a Franchisee who is a Rwandan A2 nurse independently runs her/his own small business creating at least 3 jobs each. In addition tens of other jobs are created through contracting out supporting services to local companies, helping the national economy in income and taxes. To date over 2,000,000 treatments to more than 1,700,000 registered patients have been provided through the OFH Network of health posts. Currently  over over 3000 patients are seen each day. OFH is serving 10% of Rwanda's population through only 14 of the 30 Districts. More than 97% of these treatments are reimbursed by Rwandas Community Based Health Insurance, through the Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB). In April 2019, OFH was awarded the Global Development Alliance (GDA) funding from USAID, to fund support operations to open 72 Health Posts by 31st March 2021, under the Project "Ivuriro Iwacu" with subsidized Loans from Ecobank Rwanda; expanding coverage to an estimated population of 300,000 Rwandans which will see an additional 2000 patients per day receiving care within less than an hour's walk from home. Thanks to the untiring support from our partners, Ministry of Health Rwanda, Ministry of Local Government through District and local authorities, with whom we work very closely; our financiers Ecobank Rwanda, Ecobank Foundation, Pfizer Foundation, GlaxoSmithKline, and of course the dedicated nurse Franchisees.

Our Mission

To improve access to quality essential medicines, basic healthcare, and prevention services for the children of Rwanda and their families through a sustainable franchise model that decreases the burden on Government funds and resources.

Other benefits of the OneFamilyHealth Posts are:

  • Patients seek and receive treatment before illnesses become more complicated and costly to treat

  • Nurses operating as Franchisees become more involved in their communities and are accountable for the health outcomes of their patients

  • Early case management at the community level and appropriate referral system for patients with simple ailments helps minimise overcrowding at health centers and hospitals, with prompt referrals saving lives and costs to the government
